North Korea is on the continent of Asia. North Korea occupies the northern portion of the Korean Peninsula. It lies between latitudes 37 and 43 degrees North, and longitudes 124 and 131 degrees East. It covers an area of 120,540 square kilometers or 46,541 square miles. China and Russia border North Korea on the north. South Korea borders North Korea along the Korean Demilitarized Zone, which is to the south. To the west of North Korea are the Yellow Sea and Korea Bay. Bordering on the east is the Sea of Japan, which lies between North Korea and Japan.
